General Information

General Information:

When does the season start?

Games are on Saturdays.  The opening game is on the first Saturday after Labor Day.  The last game is usually two Saturdays before Thanksgiving.  For older divisions (U12 and older), games may be scheduled the Saturday before Thanksgiving and if enough players are available, games will be played.

Over the years we have found many families begin Thanksgiving vacation the Saturday before Thanksgiving, making it difficult to play games that day.

What does the ‘U’ in the age group mean?

It means ‘Under’.  For example, U10 means Under 10.  In other words (for our club), U10 means the player is either 8 or 9 years old during the season.

When do practices start?

Practices typically can start in mid-August.  Most teams have one practice per week.  Please note many families (including coaches) take vacations in August.  Your coach will contact you to let you know when practices will begin.

What teams are in our league?

We usually have enough U7 / Micro teams to form our own league in which games are played against other SBSC teams.  We may also arrange games with teams from Rancho Santa Fe Soccer.

For U8 through U14, the league (informally known as the North County Rec Soccer League) includes teams from Rancho Santa Fe, Cardiff, Encinitas, Carlsbad, La Jolla, Del Mar, and Mesa.  Depending on the division, games may be scheduled against teams from some or all of these clubs.

U16 and U19 teams: Since most clubs only have one or two teams in these divisions, the league schedule may include teams from a wider range of North County clubs.

When will the schedule be published?

Scheduling is a complicated process since the number of fields are limited.  We try to have schedules finalized by the end of August.  We will make an “announcement” on our website and send emails to families when the schedules have been published.

What equipment will I need?

Shin guards are required for all practices and games. Cleated shoes are needed if play will be on wet, muddy or soft surfaces. For very young players, sneakers will do fine.  The Club will provide each player with a game uniform, pair of socks, shorts and a practice t-shirt.  This is included in the registration fee and players keep it all after the season.

Are mouth guards needed?

Injuries to the teeth are rare so most insurers do not require them. Many dentists however recommend them.
